Employment discrimination against Michigan's less attractive?

As we as human beings grow older, we like to think that we are wiser, more understanding and more mature than we were in our younger years. Children can be brutally honest as well as just plain mean. As we age, we like to separate ourselves from the way we acted formerly as children. Startlingly, a recent study in employment discrimination has found that perhaps Americans in Michigan as well as the rest of the country are not as mature as we would like to think.

The study found that accounts of workplace discrimination were higher for employees that were either deemed unattractive or mean. The study polled 114 health care facility employees, and it asked them how often they were treated cruelly by other employees. Other individuals who did not know that the study was being conducted were then asked to identify which of the employers they thought were attractive. Those who were not chosen were found to be treated more harshly than the other employees.

The employees who were deemed unattractive were also found to be more likely to be asked to do tasks which others workers did not want to do, less likely to get promotions and frequently given menial tasks. The findings supposedly held true across other demographics such as age, gender, race and length of employment. Those deemed unfriendly were equally discriminated against.

It is believed that a shocking 35 percent of the country's workforce, or 53 million Americans, admit to being victims of workplace bullying -- a pernicious form of employment discrimination. Unfortunately, even though we think we are more mature, this study proves that mature adults can still act like children. If one's physical appearance or colder personality prevents one from attaining employment or results in one's wrongful termination in Michigan, one could file an employment law claim against their employer.
