Nurse files sexual harassment suit against hospital and supervisor

It's been said that people who work together shouldn't become involved in a romantic relationship. As many people in Michigan can guess, one of the biggest reasons for this is the question of what happens to the working relationship if the romantic one ends. A nurse in a southern state has found out the hard way what can happen and has filed a sexual harassment suit in federal court because of it.

According to records, she and a supervisor had a romantic relationship. At some point, the nurse discovered that the supervisor was married and terminated the relationship. She claims that the man began sexually harassing her and would simply not leave her alone. She alleges he threatened to get her fired and would touch her inappropriately.

She asked her direct supervisor what to do about the situation. She claims that her supervisor did not help her and, in fact, told her not to complain. The nurse alleges that she put up with the behavior for several months and was even denied a promotion over the situation. Even after taking her claims up through the management chain, she claims nothing was done and she was even fired for her continued attempts to have something done about her complaints.

In her sexual harassment suit, she is asking to be rehired, for punitive damages, compensatory damages, prejudgment interest and attorneys' fees. Whether or not she is successful in her action may be of interest to other nurses in Michigan who may be experiencing the same type of harassment. It may not have been a good idea to get romantically involved with someone at work, especially a supervisor, but that doesn't mean that the woman was not entitled to go about her business and conduct her duties free of harassment when the relationship ended.
