15 Latino plant workers file civil rights violations

There are many ways that one can harm another person; infringing upon someone's civil rights is one of the most mentally hurtful things that someone can do. No matter what one's ethnicity is, one should not be subjected to discrimination at work in Michigan or in any other state. Fifteen Latino workers who were employees at a plant are filing discrimination claims against the plant for civil rights violations.

The group of 15 employees consists of both immigrants from Mexico as well as United States citizens of Latino heritage. All of the workers filed the civil rights violation charges with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunities Commission, or EEOC, last week. All of the workers claim that they have endured intimidation, unequal treatment and harassment.

All of the employees also allege that they have been assigned to do more dangerous and difficult work than the other workers. They have also received racially inappropriate comments including threats towards the group as well as their properties. It is not specifically stated how long these workers have endured this treatment, but it is hinted that the discrimination has gone on for a significant amount of time.

Often times, one may feel that the consequences of retaliation if one brings a discrimination issue to a higher up may be more important than actually filing a claim. One may also feel that their claim may just be brushed off. However, with fifteen workers filing the same claims, it was impossible to ignore the seriousness of the situation. Any worker in Michigan and elsewhere who has suffered civil rights violations in their workplace could be entitled to discrimination suits, which could compensate one for one's pain and suffering.
