Dave Hester from "Storage Wars" claims wrongful termination

Sometimes, celebrities, especially those new to fame from television shows such as reality T.V., can become overconfident, and these people can say things that may aggravate their employers. However, these celebrities still have employee rights, which includes, of course, the right to free speech that all American citizens living in Michigan or any other part of the country have. Dave Hester, a recent celebrity from the reality T.V. show "Storage Wars," has been allowed to pursue a wrongful termination suit against the cable company A&E for supposedly violating his First Amendment rights.

Originally, Hester had claimed unfair business practices and wrongful termination, and he was given an anti-SLAPP motion against him. This means that, under these circumstances, the claim was found to meritless, and he was charged $122,692 in legal fees. However, the judge did find that under the circumstances of employment disputes, Hester could pursue his wrongful termination claim.

The problem started in December of last year when Hester publicly complained about the show and sued them. Hester claimed that the producers plant the valuable items in the storage lockers for the show's characters to bid on, and the characters must pretend not to know about the items. Hester believes that he was within his First Amendment rights to make these statements.

Regardless if one is a celebrity or not, every employee has rights. If an employee believes that those rights have been infringed upon, that employee may be able to take legal action in Michigan as well as any other state. If Hester's wrongful termination suit is upheld in court, he could be compensated for missed wages as well as punitive damages he has received for what he believes to be a violation of his employee rights.
