Woman files sexual harassment against jailer for unfit advances

When one is new to a job, one does not fully know what to expect. One does not yet know exactly how the workday will go, nor does one yet know the personalities of one's co-workers and how to interact casually with them. Although, even though one is new and not familiar with one's co-workers, in Michigan as well as in the rest of the country there are boundaries which should not be crossed even if one of one's co-workers does have a brazen personality. A woman who worked for a jail is filing sexual harassment against one of the jailers with whom she worked.

According to the woman, the jailer's inappropriate behavior started as soon as the interview process. He progressively made more and more lewd comments towards her, touched her inappropriately and made several unwanted sexual advances, according to her. He even went as far as getting thrown out of a club while some employees were away at a conference because supposedly another man had talked to her and the jailer made a scene.

After this, the woman took time off for a while, but she returned when other employees told her that the jailer had calmed down. At another conference, the woman was socializing with another man again, and the jailer got inappropriately upset once more. Supposedly, he called and fired her while they were still on the trip.

Sometimes, victims of sexual harassment are afraid to file a claim because they are afraid of retaliation or that no one would believe the claim. However, sexual harassment is not acceptable, and, often times, the harassment will get worse the longer one allows it to continue. Any victim of sexual harassment in the workplace can consult with Michigan professionals in employment law to explore one's legal options and possibly file a claim that could compensate one for one's emotional distress.
