Immigrant workers are protected from employment violations

Immigrant farm workers have always been the most ill-treated of any category of workers. They have worked for piddling wages, lived in sub-human makeshift structures, been forced to work inhuman hours and exposed to the full range of employment violations and discrimination. The shabby treatment is so commonplace that few take the trouble to complain about it, whether it occurs here in Michigan or in other states.

Michigan woman wins ethnicity discrimination claim

A Michigan woman took a gamble and applied for a position as manager at the casino where she worked. Even though she claims the odds should have been in her favor, she was not chosen for the job. According to her claim filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), she was denied the position based on ethnicity discrimination.

CVS pharmacist sues for age discrimination, awarded $400,000

A pharmacist sued his employer, CVS, for discrimination, and the jury has recently ruled in the decision. The pharmacist claimed age discrimination against CVS for firing him after he turned 65, which is illegal in Michigan as well as the rest of the country. The pharmacist has been awarded $400,000 in back wages resulting from the suit.

Toys R Us settles disability discrimination lawsuit

Workplace discrimination can come in many forms under several different circumstances, and all of them are illegal in Michigan as well as the rest of the country. This year, a lawsuit was filed by the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission against Toys R Us Inc. for denying employment to a deaf applicant. The discrimination suit has recently been settled for $35,000.
