Former Yahoo employee says he was wrongfully fired

A man who used to work for the Internet giant Yahoo was fired and he is now suing for wrongful termination. Among other things, he says that the performance reviews that led to his firing were manipulated and that there is gender bias at the company that worked against him.

Before being fired, the man says his career was going well. He was running a number of sites for Yahoo, including those for automobiles, homes, travel and shopping, and he'd even been promoted. Along with the promotion, he'd been complimented on his work and given a raise.

Despite it all, Yahoo executives talked to him in 2014, in November, to tell him that the performance reviews showed that he had dropped down into the lowest 5 percent of all company employees. As such, he would be fired.

He wasn't even in California at the time, but in Michigan, attending the University of Michigan for a Knight-Wallace fellowship. He says that he cleared it with his superiors before going.

The man has multiple complaints about the process, which cost around 600 employees their jobs. First of all, he says that WARN act was violated since the employees weren't told about impending layoffs. He says the company needed to pay anyone who was laid off for the next 60 days. On top of that, he said that Yahoo unfairly favored women over men.

Furthermore, the man says that another employee approached him and tried to bribe him into reducing the score of another worker, but he reported it instead. He thinks that may have played a role in his termination.

Those who have been unfairly terminated must know all of the legal options that they have, from asking for compensation to fighting to get a job back.
