A pattern of sexual harassment is dangerous

There is little worse than being sexually harassed at your place of employment. While there are many laws in place to protect employees, including the Civil Rights Act, it doesn't mean that people don't cross the line. When this happens, you could be put in a bad position that turns your life upside down.

One of the biggest issues with sexual harassment is the inability to break the pattern. In other words, if people do this one time they may begin to partake in the behavior more often. Not only could this impact you, but it could also affect others in your office.

If you find yourself in this position, the first thing you should do is tell the person, "No." Make it clear that you will not stand for the harassment.

From there, don't hesitate to inform the HR department as to what happened. At this point, you should feel comfortable making a formal complaint. Furthermore, follow up regularly to ensure that the issue has been taken care of.

In some cases, breaking the pattern of sexual harassment calls for extreme measures. When internal efforts fail, you need to think outside the box. And this often means filing a lawsuit in order to fight back.

At our law firm, we do whatever it takes to protect victims of sexual harassment. We know that this remains a major problem throughout the country, and it's our goal to help victims who live and work in and around the Detroit area.

Even though it can be difficult to speak out, help is available.
