Sadly, there are many Michigan residents who are not properly compensated for their time on the job. Wage and hours employment disputes are common, particularly in certain industries. For example, in another state, a restaurant owner is currently being sued for his failure to properly and timely pay some of his employees.
A lawsuit was filed against Mission Beach Cafe near the end of March. Several current and former employees are listed as the plaintiffs in this case, all of whom claim that they were not fully compensated for hours worked and that their pay checks were routinely late — sometimes coming months later than expected. At this time, it is unclear how much in compensation these individuals are seeking, as claims and alleged violations are still being evaluated by their legal counsel.
The restaurant’s owner only just recently found out about the lawsuit. He has yet to issue a statement on the matter. It was reported that the attorneys for the plaintiffs had tried to negotiate with owner for several months before the lawsuit was filed with no positive results.
Only time will tell how this particular case will ultimately be resolved. At the end of the day, whether one is employed in Michigan or elsewhere, when wage and hour disputes arise, those affected have the right to pursue legal actions in order to seek compensation for their losses. An employment law attorney will be able to review one’s case and will work to resolve the issue either through out-of-court negotiations or litigation — if deemed appropriate.
